Purple

Marillion Convention 2003

A song I wrote back in the mid-to-late nineties about being a musician - a class of person whose world other classes of people seem to find very difficult to penetrate :)

Sittin' with my blue guitar
I'm hangin' with my friend
The time today that's racin' past
Will get you in the end
And moving at a snail's pace
Travel slowly, if at all
But there's more time to read the writing on the wall
There's still time to read the writing on the wall

You cultivate your dark side
Say it generates the tunes
But lyrics aren't important
When you're howlin' at the moon
One day you'll wake up sober
And forget what you've to do
But 'til then just sit and strum a little blue

It's alright - take it easy
I can handle it you see
It's alright - no need to drown in your responsibility
It's alright - look in your own head
Is it closing in on me
Or do the many shades of purple all agree?

Out there on your own now
Though the party's just begun
The conversation static in the world of number one
And you wave your hand before me
As you ever did before
Just to show me that you'll never know the score
Don't try to tell me that you'll ever know the score

It's alright - take it easy
I can handle it you see
It's alright - no need to drown in your responsibility
It's alright - look in your own head
Is it closing in on me
Or do the many shades of purple all agree?

It's alright - take it easy
I can handle it you see
It's alright - no need to drown in your responsibility
It's alright - look in your own head
Is it closing in on me
Or do the many shades of purple all agree?
And are the many shades of purple only me?
Only me
Only me
Only me
