Blind Ambition

Sane Logo

This was a brilliant song. The Flying South album consisted of existing tracks, combined with ones written by myself and Eddie. Blind Ambition drew together the various influences of the band and packaged them up in a complex song that was a joy to play live and which I've never ceased to hear in my head, even though only a shabby cassette demo without Eddie exists.

Think! Look around you
See where we found you
Goals you set for you
And things that you think you're due

Waiting all the time for your true salvation
Envying the rich and their different nation
Never one to follow current direction
Run away and hide from the course correction
Hoping all the time for your big audition
When getting up tomorrow is your main ambition
Never taking notes of the bonds you sever
Nothing ever came good without endeavour

And as protesters leave the streets
Dejection slides beneath the thieves of Whitehall
Watch as your aspirations fade
And desperation leaves its shade on us all

In this world if you want to change anything you can't let them get away with murder
Don't just sit on your arse, get up on the streets, stand up to reality and danger
If you sit back and just let the world go by don't expect to be winning any prizes
Success and failure are not too far apart just the difference 'tween doubt and wonder
Or fear and hunger
Submission / choosing
Or winning / losing

Waiting all the time for your true salvation
Envying the rich and their different nation
Never one to follow current direction
Run away and hide from the course correction
Hoping all the time for your big audition
When getting up tomorrow is your main ambition
Never taking notes of the bonds you sever
Nothing ever came good without endeavour

Blind
Blind
Blind
Blind
Blind
Blind
Blind
Blind
Don't go blind
