Paper Tiger

De Boerderij met Lords of the Backstage

A song written in the early nineties, inspired by the proliferation of detective series on television. Now, I quite like detective stuff - I mean, Dorothy L Sayers is one of my favourite authors - but some of the newer stuff I find rather false.

Intro:

Am G F C G
Am G F G

  Am G
Extremes of passion play their part
   F C G
In games of dull addiction
  Am G
Our pens drip blood in place of art
   F G
In works of fondest fiction
Am G
Pseudo-intellectual
   F C G
To tease the overloaded mind
Am G
Endlessly conditioned
     F Am
Into thinking it's behind

                  Am G
Searching for the culprit
       Am G
Are we chasing paper tigers
       F C
As our brains all say goodnight
          Am G
Everyone's whodunnit
       Am G
Are we chasing paper tigers
       F C
As the search cuts out the light

We all travel many roads
And seldom turn aside
Our concentration missed its point
By skipping on the ride
Pseudo-psychological
To ease the overloaded mind
Endlessly conditioned
Into thinking it's behind

Searching for the culprit
Are we chasing paper tigers
As our brains all say goodnight
Everyone's whodunnit
Are we chasing paper tigers
       F G
As the search cuts out the light

Am G F C
Streams of light break through the beaded curtain
       F C
As the sun comes around
    Am G F C
The only way to see the bigger picture
      F G
Is to tear it down

Searching for the culprit
Are we chasing paper tigers
As our brains all say goodnight
Everyone's whodunnit
Are we chasing paper tigers
       F G F G Am
As the search cuts out the l - - - - - ight
